The Steering Committee for the Program on Key Mechanical Products shall be composed of Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung as its head, Industry Minister Hoang Trung Hai as its deputy head and 11 representatives of the participating ministries and branches as its members.

The Steering Committee shall have the following tasks and powers:

- To direct, guide, inspect and urge the ministries, branches and localities to realize the program on key mechanical products in strict accordance with the objectives and schedules set in the Strategy for Development of Vietnam’s Mechanical engineering industry till 2010, with the vision towards 2020 taken into consideration.

- To direct the ministries and branches to formulate plannings on development of the mechanical engineering industry till 2010 and inspect the implementation of approved plannings.

- To direct the formulation and realization of, inspect, supervise and evaluate in an overall manner, investment projects on manufacturing mechanical products under the program on key mechanical products.

- To direct surveys, statistics and evaluation of technological level and production capacity of the mechanical engineering industry at home and abroad.

- To direct the ministries and branches to formulate and submit to the Government and/or the Prime Minister for decision policies and solutions regarding finance, tax, market and human resource training for the mechanical engineering industry.- (Summary)
