DECISION No. 142/2003/QD-TTg of July 14, 2003 transforming Cape Nature Conservation Zone, Ca Mau province, into Ca Mau Cape National Park, Ca Mau province

To transform Cape Nature Conservation Zone in Ngoc Hien district, Ca Mau province, into a national park belonging to the system of Vietnam's special-use forests.

Ca Mau Cape National Park's objectives and tasks are:

- To conserve for a long time the ecological prototypes of national, regional and world importance on the basis of scientific, economic and social solutions in order to protect the submerged-land ecological system in the region, which is being in natural evolution process.

- To build Ca Mau Cape National Park in service of excursion, ecological tourism and international cooperation activities, build up and experiment models of conservation and sustainable use of submerged forest resources, and promote the economic value and functions of the submerged-land ecological system.

- To bring into full play the role of environmental protection, limit land erosion and slides, promote the process of coastal alluvial deposit in order to protect the people's life and production in mainland areas, protect coastal residential areas of fishermen, lay the foundation for the sustainable development process in coastal areas.

- To protect bio-diversity of submerged forest ecological systems, the habitat of biogenetic species, provide nutrients to aquatic species and support production activities in coastal areas.

- To build a stable forestry social structure, suitable to the objectives of managing, protecting and developing forests through improving and raising the sustainability of the forestry-fishery cultivation systems, increase forest productivity in order to raise the economic value of submerged forests in the buffer zone of the national park.

- To improve rural infrastructure in order to unceasingly improve the living conditions of people in the region. To raise the community's awareness about the value of forests and submerged-land ecological system, and methods for sustainable use of submerged land resources.

- To contribute to consolidating national defense, protecting political security and social order in the southernmost region of the country.

The national park's total natural area is 41,862 ha, and the buffer zone, 8,194 ha.

The People's Committee of Ca Mau province shall directly manage the national park.- (Summary)
