The Steering Board for the Socio-Economic Development of the Central Highlands in the periods from 1996 to 2000 and to 2010 shall comprise 14 members with Mr. Nguyen Cong Tan, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development as Head; Mr. Nguyen Van Dang, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, as Standing Deputy Head; Mr. Nguyen Duy Khanh, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Gia Lai province, as Deputy Head; the other 11 members shall comprise a Vice Minister of Finance, a Vice Minister of Communications and Transport, a Vice Minister of Construction, a Vice Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, a Vice Minister of Planning and Investment, a Vice Minister of Defense, a Vice Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, a Vice Chairman of the Commission of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas, the Chairman of the Managing Board of the Vietnam Rubber Corporation, the Chairman of the Managing Board of the Vietnam Coffee Corporation and the Director of the Central Highland University.

The Steering Board shall have to assume the main responsibility and coordinate with the concerned Ministries, branches and the People�s Committees of the Central Highland provinces in implementing Decision No.656-TTg of September 13, 1996 of the Prime Minister on "Socio-Economic Development of the Central Highlands in the Periods of 1996-2000 and 1996-2010"; organizing the supervision and direction of the implementation of the decisions by the concerned Ministries, branches and various levels in accordance with the requirements and pace of each period; reviewing, drawing experiences from the implementation organization; campaigning for the programs on socio-economic development of the Central Highlands.- (Summary)
