The Transport Inspectorate is organized into a system attached to the Transport Ministry at the central level or the provincial/municipal Transport Services (or Traffic and Public Work Services) at the local levels, and performs the function of State inspection and specialized inspection within the scope of State management over land-road, railway, inland waterway, maritime and airway transport according to law provisions.

This Decree prescribes the transport inspection objects, the operation contents and principles, working relationships, organizational system, tasks and powers of the Transport Inspectorate, the inspection order and procedures, the uniform, badges, material and technical bases and operation funding of the transport inspection force.

This Decree takes effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette and annuls the Government's Decree No. 80/CP of December 5, 1996 prescribing the organization and operation of the Specialized Transport Inspectorate, the Prime Minister's Decision No. 204/TTg of December 28, 1992 promulgating the Regulation on organization and operation of Vietnam Maritime Safety Inspectorate and the previous regulations on the transport inspectorate contrary to this Decree.- (Summary)
